The Chinese Claim California as a Confucian Homeland.
THE CHINESE CLAIM CALIFORNIA AS A CONFUCIAN HOMELAND.

This post helps illustrate how ludicrous the Israelis claim to Palestine really is.

Suppose, California (back when it was a separate country) had a very liberal immigration policy and that over a period of 50 years, a few hundred thousand Chinese settled there (particularly along the coast and in the north). They purchased some 20% of the best farmland and settled in exclusively Chinese communities. They worked hard and prospered. However, some of the new immigrants desired to establish a Confucian state and agitated strongly for it. The original Californians (many of whom already resented the presence of the newcomers and had committed acts of violence against them) became increasingly alarmed. After all, they were hearing reports that the Chinese were indeed serious about a Confucian state, and that they were raising an army to implement it by force, if necessary.

Fearing that if nothing was done war would be inevitable, the British stepped in, and divided the country in two, with the north and most of the coast going to the Chinese, and the inland desert region and south to all others. The world agreed that this was a "fair and equitable solution", although the original Californians couldn't see it that way. They were visibly upset with this arrangement and made it known that they had held talks with the Americans, and that the Americans had decided that they would attack if the Chinese carried out their stated policy of declaring a Confucian state. They also vociferously objected to the British intervention, claiming that Britain had no right to give away their land.

However, the Chinese had indeed been raising an army and were not deterred by this threat. A civil war between the Chinese and local Californians broke out (I guess the thought of losing their sovereignty and the prospect of learning to read and write Chinese had clouded the Californians minds. It also appeared that few of them wanted to move to the inland desert regions, something to do with a lack of water). The Chinese aggressively pursued the military option in order to gain land not assigned to them by the British partition plan. Within weeks they declared the north and coast areas (given to them by the British) and also the areas captured in the civil war, as the Confucian state of Confusion. As promised, the American army attacked (to assist their brethren in the civil war). Although the (now full blown) war initially looked like it could go either way, the combined Californian and American forces were beaten.

Over the period of the war, a large majority of the non-combatant Californians fled inland to Nevada and Arizona and north to Oregon (especially, after several massacres of civilians were reported). With the cessation of hostilities most wished to return to their homes, however, the Chinese were so incensed that they had been attacked by these scum, that they refused to allow them to return (besides, it seemed a convenient opportunity to steal all the land). These people, who had lost everything, eventually drifted to the outskirts of Portland and Flagstaff where they lived in large refugee camps for the next fifty years (and tried to raise money and organise for attacks against the occupiers). The relatively small number of original Californians left in the newly formed state of Confusion were allowed to stay as long as they lived in separate areas, worked as low paid labor, and generally faded into the background.

Actually, the Chinese claim: that the native Indians of California are their descendents, and thus that their conquest of California was totally legitimate,..... gained much currency in China. However, the Californians proclaimed the idea ridiculous, and continued their (violent) resistance.
